New tipping fees take effect today at both the Comox Valley and Campbell River Waste Management Centres.
Comox Strathcona Waste Management says the increases align with their long term financial strategy to follow a user-pay model, where those who generate waste contribute fairly to the cost of managing it.
Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional fees are increasing by $10 to $165 per tonne.
It’s the same for Household Municipal Solid Waste. Drywall is going up to $285 per tonne, and Clean Fill up to $60 per tonne from $40.
A separate increase for Construction Waste, from $155 per tonne to $205 per tonne, will take effect October 1st.
The increases will maintain a stable tax rate over the next three years, while also supporting operational needs of the CSWM service.
