BC Hydro is warning residents and visitors about higher than normal Puntledge River flows through Wednesday.
They’re asking the public to stay away from the high and dangerous water flows in all stretches of the Puntledge River.
Ahead of the weekend, the Comox Lake Reservoir was at 133.4 metres above sea level and around the middle elevation range.
At this time of year, BC Hydro says it aims to keep the reservoir below 134.4 metres for flood risk management.
Heavy rain on the weekend, continuing today, means above normal inflows over the next week or so.
BC Hydro said the increased flows were providing a recreational opportunity for expert kayakers, but the wider public was advised to stay away from the river flow.
Temporary safety signage is in place along the river system highlighting the increased risk.
