The Independent Investigations Office of BC is investigating a motor vehicle incident that occurred in Courtenay, involving an unmarked police SUV.
Information provided by the RCMP said that on Tuesday, April 29, an officer driving was responding to a call and was involved in a collision with an unrelated vehicle near the intersection of Piercy Avenue and 26th Street.
It was separately reported to the IIO that following the collision, the officer continued driving to the initial call for service, later returning to the scene of the collision and speaking with the man who had been driving the other vehicle.
The man was later taken by ambulance to hospital for assessment.
The IIO was notified on May 2 and is now investigating.
The IIO investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing.
