Have Your Say On Proposed Updates To Development Cost Charges In Courtenay

Monday, July 14, 2025 at 7:08 AM

By Jay Herrington

The City of Courtenay is updating its Development Cost Charges Bylaw, and residents and the development community are invited to learn more and provide feedback.

DCCs are one-time fees paid by developers to help cover the cost of new infrastructure needed to support growth, such as roads, sewer and water systems, and parks.

The updated bylaw includes proposed rates and project costs.

The last significant update to the program was in 2016, with a minor revision in 2022.

A joint information session and a community open house will be held on Monday, July 21, at the Native Sons Hall in Courtenay.

The developer open house runs from 12pm to 2pm, hosted in partnership with the Town of Comox, Village of Cumberland and Comox Valley Regional District.

From 4pm to 6pm, the community can drop in to learn more.

Feedback from the information session will be shared with Council when the updated bylaw is presented for further consideration.

Council will consider the bylaw toward the end of August and a provincial review will follow in the fall, with final adoption expected in December.

For more information — including draft rates, a project timeline, background documents and the Eventbrite registration link, visit City of Courtenay.
