The demolition of the old fire hall on Gladstone Street in Comox begins Thursday, March 28, 2024.

The building served as a first responder cornerstone in the community for over 20 years before being decommissioned in 1978 following the establishment of the current fire hall on Noel Avenue.

Despite most of the building not being salvageable due to age and contamination with lead and asbestos, the Town says it is committed to recycling as many non-hazardous materials as possible.

Work to demolish the building will run into next week.

For more details on demolition and the backgrounder, a previously issued news release can here reviewed at Town of Comox.

For those interested in the history that has been preserved and the items generously donated by the Comox Fire Hall, visit the Comox Museum Tuesday through Saturday from 12-4pm.
