A man who was living in Comox at the time of the alleged offences is facing action from the B.C. Securities Commission over an alleged $4.6-million cryptocurrency investment fraud.

The Commission has issued a Notice of Hearing against Connor Sinclair Gardiner-Ingram, who now lives in Calgary. The allegations have not been proven.

According to the Commission, Gardiner-Ingram raised about $4.6 million from investors between October 2021 and February 2024, claiming the money would be invested in cryptocurrency trading bots that would generate profits over set investment periods.

The Commission alleges the money was never used for the trading bots. Instead, investigators say the funds were spent on personal expenses, including transfers to family members, luxury goods, jewelry, vehicles, travel, cash withdrawals, and other purchases.

Their notice also alleges Gardiner-Ingram made false or misleading statements to investigators under oath during interviews in 2024, including claims about where investors' money went.

A hearing is set for September in Vancouver.

The B.C. Securities Commission is seeking orders under the Securities Act, including penalties and sanctions.
