The First People’s Cultural Foundation and the First People’s Cultural Council have received $34.75 million in funding to support First Nations languages, arts, culture- and-heritage-revitalization and operations.

The First People’s Cultural Foundation and the First People’s Cultural Council have received $34.75 million in funding to support First Nations languages, arts, culture- and-heritage-revitalization and operations. The First Peoples’ Cultural Council will administer program funding on behalf of the Foundation in support of their legislated mandate to “protect, revitalize, and enhance First Nations heritage, language, culture, and arts.

With this funding, there will be more opportunities for First Nations artists, musicians, heritage and language workers, and support for broad cultural programming. This new funding will provide multi-year provincial investments.

Funding from the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation includes: 

$25 million over three fiscal years to arts and cultural heritage programming.

$7.15 million in operational funding through 2023 for staffing, research, reporting, technology, and direct support for communities such as coaching, training and resources.

Funding from the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training includes:

$2.6 million to support Youth Empowered Speakers Program, which combines Mentor-Apprentice immersion learning, paid internships, and education funding to develop fluent teachers and early childhood educators.
