The City of Campbell River is hosting a watch party on Thursday to view the action live as Canada kicks off its FIFA Women’s World Cup quest with a match against Nigeria.
The event starts at 7 p.m. in the library courtyard, between the library and Tidemark Theatre, on Shoppers Row.
The game will be projected on a large screen live from Melbourne, Australia.
The City says special guests from the local soccer community will be on hand to break down the action at half-time, including Carihi Secondary School grad and Campbell River Youth Soccer Association alumni Gillianne Stewardson, who currently plays for Harbourside FC of Nanaimo in the semi-professional League 1 BC, as well as longtime Carihi girls’ soccer team coach John Jepson.
There will be games and giveaways at half-time.
It's free to attend and everyone is welcome.
