The federal government has introduced Bill C-78, the Tax Break for All Canadians Act in Parliament.
It will provide a two-month GST/HST break for essentials, like groceries, restaurant meals, drinks, snacks, children’s clothing, and gifts.
Select items would be tax-free from December 14th to February 15th.
Beer, wine, cider, prepared foods; restaurant meals, whether dine-in, takeout, or delivery; pop and chips; children’s clothing and footwear; books and print newspapers, are all on the list.
The Bill is expected to be passed today.
The feds are also working on a plan to send $250 cheques to Canadians in the spring.
