Comox Valley RCMP is investigating after a collision claimed the life of an 83-year old woman.

On Tuesday afternoon, police were called to the 1800 block of Anderton Road in Comox for a collision between a cyclist and a tractor-trailer.

Unfortunately, despite the immediate lifesaving efforts of bystanders, Emergency Health Services paramedics, and Comox Fire Rescue firefighters, the cyclist died as a result of her injuries.

The road was closed to traffic for several hours while investigators were on scene. Initial evidence suggests that the driver of the truck did not see the cyclist prior to the collision.

The driver remained at the scene, provided first aid to the cyclist, and is cooperating with the investigation.

At this time, it does not appear that driver impairment or speed were factors in this collision.

The BC Coroner’s Service is conducting a concurrent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cyclist’s death.

Anyone with information is asked to please contact the Comox Valley RCMP at (250)338-1321.
