A multi-jurisdictional exercise involving the Seal Bay Nature Park area is happening on Friday.
The exercise was co-designed with CFB Comox 19-Wing, Comox Valley Airport Commission, and Health Emergency Management BC.
Exercise participants include local fire and emergency response services, BC Emergency Health Services, BC Transit, BC Wildfire Service, Comox Valley Regional Emergency Operations Centre, Comox Valley RCMP Detachment, Island Health, Main Road North Island, North Island 911/Fire Dispatch and more.
"Joint training exercises strengthen cross-jurisdictional relationships and prepare our teams to respond and coordinate effectively when hazards and disasters impact this community," explains Cari McIntyre, Emergency Planning Coordinator, Comox Valley Emergency Management Service.
“All scenarios have been carefully prepared to realistically exercise interagency cooperation, while maintaining the safety of participants and the surrounding community.”
Residents may hear sirens, see flashing lights and emergency vehicles staged along Waveland Road, between Larch Road and June Road, and along Huband Road between Stevedor Road and Mitchell Road, while the training exercises are taking place.
