The Discovery Passage Aquarium is set to reopen for the 2026 season on Saturday, May 16.
Staff say the facility has invested in upgrades to aquarium infrastructure over the spring, aimed at improving both animal welfare and the visitor experience.
The aquarium will also feature new exhibits, species, and habitats for the upcoming season.
The aquarium is also taking a lead role in coordinating Ocean Week Campbell River, a week-long series of events celebrating the community’s connection to local marine ecosystems.
Plans include sea star surveys, art workshops, and an Ocean Week festival scheduled for June 6 at the Maritime Heritage Centre and the aquarium.
In addition, the neighbouring Explorer Lab is expanding its Ocean Explorers Summer Camps, with more spaces available this year.
Organizers are also seeking volunteers to help prepare for the season and assist with Ocean Week activities.
The Discovery Passage Aquarium is located at the base of Discovery Pier, across from the Maritime Heritage Centre.
The facility operates as a registered charity focused on education and stewardship, offering hands-on experiences with local marine species collected in the spring and returned to their habitats at the end of the season.
