The Comox Valley Regional District has filed an amended Notice of Claim with the Supreme Court of British Columbia in its legal action related to ship breaking in Union Bay.
The district says the amended filing was submitted March 25 and builds on its original Notice of Civil Claim filed in April 2022.
That initial claim sought help from the court to stop ship breaking operations at a site on Island Highway in Union Bay.
The matter remains before the courts and is considered an active legal proceeding.
Alana Mullaly, the CVRD’s General Manager of Planning and Development Services, says the environmental health of Baynes Sound remains important to the district and the community, but notes it is limited in what information can be shared publicly while the case is ongoing.
Officials say additional factual updates will be provided as court dates are scheduled and new materials become part of the public record.
