On Monday, the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) held a small acknowledgement and plaque reveal event to celebrate the donation of 40 acres of land, which is to be named Maris Nature Park.

“This is a great day for the Comox Valley and signifies an important addition to the parks system in the community”, says Electoral Area C Director Edwin Grieve.

“The CVRD is happy to formally acknowledge the donor of Maris Nature Park through the gifting of a plaque. We would like to thank Christopher Investments for their generous donation and look forward to protecting this land for generations to come.”

The land was donated by Christopher Investments in memory of its founder and his wife, John, and Diane Feigl.

The donation was made possible through the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Ecological Gifts Program, which provides a way for owners of ecologically sensitive land to protect nature and leave a legacy for future generations.

As per donation guidelines, development options for land donated through the program require review and approval.

As CVRD staff work through the management planning process, they are asking the public to not access the land and respect the ecological values of the site.

Updates will be provided on the Maris Nature Park project page as this planning process goes through the necessary community discussions.
