The Comox Strathcona Waste Management service has acquired the Oyster River Recycling Depot on Regent Road.
The purchase ensures the facility remains a community asset and will continue to serve residents of Comox Valley Regional District, Strathcona Regional District and South Campbell River for years to come.
The acquisition was funded through the CSWM service and provides long term planning to enhance the recycling services available at that location.
Future planned improvements include upgrades to the building, expanded diversion services and additional parking.
CSWM says it is committed to continued negotiations to include the location as a Recycle BC depot and add recycling services for items such as glass, foam and flexible plastic packaging.
The Oyster River Recycling Depot location has been part of the community since 1976, when it was constructed as a fire hall.
SRD Area D Director John Rice says the depot collects over 500 tonnes of recycling annually and is one of the most frequented depots in the CSWM service.
