Courtenay Rec is getting ready for its annual end-of-season dog swim, with the pool open to canine swimmers on Saturday, August 30th, before closing for the season.

“Pooch-a-Poolooza is one of the most joyful days of our season,” said Ryan Coltura, Assistant Manager of Recreation Facility Operations.

“I love ending summer with a pool full of happy pups. It’s so much fun for the dogs, their people and everyone watching.”

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the 30-metre pool will be open for dogs of all sizes to splash, paddle and play. Admission is $5 per dog, with all proceeds donated to the local SPCA.

Proof of rabies vaccination is required, so you are asked to bring documentation with you. For everyone’s safety, dogs must be friendly and well-behaved, and only dogs are allowed in the pool during the event.

The wading pool will remain closed for maintenance.

Van Isle Veterinary Hospital staff will be on site to help ensure a safe experience, and Woofy’s Pet Foods will also be there with pet-friendly giveaways.

For more information, call Courtenay Recreation’s Lewis Centre at 250 338-5371 or visit City of Courtenay.
