The City of Courtenay is reaching out to those who have donated memorial benches, with some important updates about the program.
City officials say that while information was originally sent to past donors in May, some letters may not have been received due to outdated contact details.
Courtenay’s memorial bench program was officially discontinued in 2019, and the city is now moving ahead with the next step, which is removing the plaques from existing benches.
All plaques are expected to be taken down by December 31 and will be stored at the City Operations Yard until December 2026.
Donors who wish to retrieve their plaques can contact the city by calling 250-334-4441, extension 7231, or by emailing benchdonation@courtenay.ca to arrange pickup.
The city notes that if a new donation program is introduced in the future, previous donors will be invited to participate under updated terms.
