Courtenay Alberni MP Gord Johns is hoping a plan will come together to save the Pachena and Carmanah Lighthouses.
These lighthouses sit in between the West Coast Trail, host to thousands of hikers each year, and a treacherous stretch of water known as the Graveyard of the Pacific.
The NDP notes the decision to close and automate the lighthouses was made without consulting First Nations and local communities and is an unnecessary risk for Vancouver Islanders.
Johns says automation won’t suffice and the decision puts lives at risk.
"I am hopeful the government will come to its senses on this matter. If not, Alistair and I will take the fight to Parliament this fall.", said Johns.
