Plans are moving ahead for a new fire hall at Mount Washington.

The Comox Valley Regional District says construction is set to begin in early spring of 2026, once the winter season wraps up.

Building tenders were released last month, marking another step toward improving emergency response capacity on the mountain.

The new fire hall will feature truck bays and storage for firefighting equipment, and will be located at the Mount Washington Mountain Centre, which the CVRD purchased earlier this year.

The centre already serves as a hub for community activities - from sports group lodging and meetings to firefighter training - and will continue to host local users like the Strathcona Nordic Ski Club.

Funding for the purchase and construction comes from a mix of short-term debt, Community Works Funds, and the provincial Growing Communities Fund.

Construction updates will be posted at Comox Valley RD.
