Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists are being asked to allow for extra travel time and use caution along Lake Trail Road, where single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect during construction.

Work is expected to run into the fall as crews complete active transportation improvements in the area.

The new path completes work that was started in Phase 1 of the project, when crews constructed a gravel path from Lake Trail to Arden Road, upgraded a bus stop and improved drainage along the route.

Phase 2 extends the path to Webb Road. Work is timed to meet environmental requirements, which protect the endangered Morrison Creek lamprey in Arden Creek.

Funding comes in part from the Comox Valley Regional District (Area C) and the Province of B.C. through the Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant Program.

The project was initiated by the Arden Elementary Green Team and Ambassadors who wanted safer ways to travel between the schools.
