Construction has officially kicked off for the Union Bay Fire Hall.
Electoral Area A Director Daniel Arbour calls it a big day, saying many community members and fire department members worked towards a new fire hall in Union Bay, in some cases for decades.
Union Bay Fire Rescue Chief Ian Ham says it marks a milestone of nearly three decades in the making.
“Seeing construction finally begin is more than just a building going up, it’s a commitment to safety, resilience, and the future of our region. I’m incredibly proud of our members, grateful to our community, and honoured to witness this long-awaited project become a reality.”
The existing firehall was built in 1956. Due to its age and size, the building has reached the end of its use.
New fire trucks cannot physically fit into the truck bays and storage issues continue to occur for emergency response crews.
