BC conservation officers captured a boa constrictor near Comox last week.

On Thursday, June 26th, the COS received information of a potential large snake on the loose in Miracle Beach Provincial Park.

Some trails were cleared of any visitors and temporarily closed, with park visitors turned away at the trail entrances as officers searched for the five-foot long snake.

It was safely captured that afternoon and was transported to the Comox Valley SPCA.

Due to its length, the boa constrictor was determined to be a restricted reptile under the Controlled Alien Species (CAS) regulation, which means that while a permit is not required to own it, they cannot be released under any circumstances.

Conservation officers are now  investigating the circumstances.

The COS says it doesn’t believe the incident is linked to a boa constrictor recently on the loose in Tofino.

In a post to social media, the COS says over the last 10+ years, officers have captured lions, alligators and monkeys.

Controlled Alien Species are not native to BC and are not considered wildlife. The Province regulates all interactions with CAS to ensure public safety.
