The Comox Valley Sports Centre will soon be marking its 50th anniversary and the Comox Valley Regional District is inviting residents to help celebrate.

The facility opened its doors in 1975 so the theme of the day - Saturday, September 6th, will be a throwback to 1975.

The family-friendly event will honour five decades of recreation, community connection, and healthy living in the Comox Valley.

Event activities include - at original 1975 prices - a retro-themed aquafit class, public swims and skates, a cake cutting, and a pool-side movie.

Seniors and children 12 and under get in for just 30-cents, teens 45-cents, and adults 75-cents.

Beginning August 7, the facility will be kicking off celebrations with 50 Days of Giveaways.

One patron per day will win a free admission just for showing up and being part of the celebration.

There is also a community photo contest running August 7 to 23 that showcases the rich history and personal memories tied to the Comox Valley Sports Centre.

Participants can submit photos taken at the facility from 1975 to the present for a chance to win a 3-month family pass.

Each valid submission also receives a complimentary admission pass to the Sports Centre.
