A reminder for residents from the Comox Valley Regional District about fireworks.
The CVRD requires a fireworks permit prior to setting off fireworks for properties within Electoral Areas A, B or C. Fireworks in the rural areas are only allowed to be set off on property of your own or with the owner’s permission.
The sale of fireworks in the district happens from October 24 until November 1 and must be from a commercially zoned retailer operating under the current fire regulations within the region.
If you live within the Town of Comox, City of Courtenay or Village of Cumberland, it is suggested you contact your municipality directly for fireworks regulations and permit requirements.
You can buy the $10 permits online or at the CVRD office (770 Harmston Avenue, Courtenay).
Amanda Yasinski, Senior Manager of Building and Bylaw Compliance explains that failure to have a permit is now a $500 fine and residents are reminded to plan ahead.
She also says it’s a good idea to let your neighbours know if you are planning on setting anything off.
