Comox Valley RCMP say they’ve arrested a man for impersonating a police officer in Cumberland.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 6th,  a man allegedly followed the victim from Courtenay to his home in Cumberland. The man approached the victim and identified himself as an off-duty police officer.

Several witnesses, including the victim, were keen enough to realize something was off, and called police.

“Several witnesses, including the victim, were keen enough to realize something was not right and called police, said Constable Monika Terragni, Media Relations Officer, Comox Valley RCMP.

“Fortunately, a police officer was in the area, quickly arrived and arrested the suspect.”

Comox Valley RCMP would like to reach out to any witnesses who they have not yet spoken with.

The suspect was driving a black Dodge Ram 1500 with silver decals, a black cargo rack, and stickers that read K9 on Duty on the rear windows.

The 40-year old Comox Valley man has been charged with multiple offences including impersonating a police officer.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Comox Valley RCMP at (250) 338-1321 and refer to file 2023-12539.
