Sirens were heard and more than a few extra emergency vehicles were seen on the road - in the Comox Valley on Tuesday.

The Comox Valley Emergency Program held a training exercise at their main office on Harmston Avenue.

The exercise allowed Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) response and support personnel to practice operational guidelines, procedures, and communications systems, and to learn new skills.

Many different groups took part; local personnel from the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, Village of Cumberland, the CVRD and K’ómoks First Nation.

It was also a day of learning for members of Comox Valley Search and Rescue, RCMP, St. John Ambulance, Salvation Army, and others.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
