The Comox Valley Airport has announced funding for environmentally focused infrastructure and airside operating areas from the B.C Air Access Program (BCAAP).
The province has announced nearly 20-million dollars in spending in the latest round of funding through the program, in support of 40 projects at 29 air facilities.
Two applications were submitted by YQQ to assist in the purchase and installation of a solar power array and electrification of ground support equipment and utility vehicles.
The airport is getting about $375,000 for the two projects.
“The funding will help us progress on our sustainability commitment by supporting our efforts to reduce our emissions through the use of solar power and reduction in the use of fossil fuels.” said Airport CEO, Mike Atkins.
“While we have already achieved carbon neutral status, these projects will assist us in minimizing offsets and aid in the ongoing incremental steps necessary to reach our goal of net zero emissions”.
Atkins notes the airport has already achieved carbon neutral status, and these projects will assist in the ongoing incremental steps necessary to reach the goal of net zero emissions.
