The Town of Comox has received a $25,000 grant from the Social Planning and Research Council of B.C.
The funding announcement coincides with National AccessAbility Week, which wraps up on Saturday.
The week is meant to celebrate the contributions of Canadians with disabilities and raise awareness about the importance of inclusion.
The funding will support improvements to the Town’s website and mapping tools to make them more accessible for all users.
The Town is working in collaboration with the Comox Valley Accessibility Committee.
Specifically, the funding will be used to implement new digital tools that improve accessibility, such as enhanced navigation features, readable fonts, and alternative text for images, ensuring that all residents and visitors can access online information with ease.
In addition, the Town’s interactive map will be upgraded to include information about accessibility infrastructure throughout Comox, such as the location of accessible parking, ramps, and public washrooms.
The Town says the improvements are part of its three-year Accessibility Assessment and Action Plan, which includes a series of prioritized recommendations aimed at creating a more inclusive community.
