The general and school election campaign is now well underway with nominations for mayor, councilor, and school trustee ending last Friday.

There will be changes at the top in Comox where mayor Russ Arnott has announced he has cancelled his re-election bid.

Arnott posted on his Facebook page that he has cherished his 11 years as councilor and mayor, but that life has thrown him a "curve ball."

Arnott said he's not sure where he is headed, but he's optimistic.

Comox Councilor Nicole Minions was the only one to file papers and will be acclaimed mayor.

Elsewhere, two people have registered to run for Mayor in Cumberland and five for the top job in Campbell River.

The election will be held Saturday, October 15th with advanced polls beginning on October 5th.
