Comox Fire Rescue held its annual Awards Night this past Saturday, recognizing longtime service, exceptional performance, and community contribution within the department.
Lieutenant Sandy Pridmore and Captain Corey Brooks received their federal 30-year medals, marking decades of commitment to fire service and public safety in the community.
This year’s Rookie of the Year awards went to Noah James and Hans Huggler, while Firefighter Todd Fyfe and Lieutenant Orod Farbod shared the title of Firefighter of the Year.
Several memorial awards were also presented, including the “I Made a Difference” award in honour of Steward Rennie, received by firefighter Tammy Blair, and the Kevin Kimler Memorial Award for Above and Beyond, presented to firefighter Giovanni Vanzzini.
Special recognition was also given to Assistant Chiefs Rick Shelton and Jim Lariviere, who will both retire at the end of 2025 after long careers with the department - including decades as full-time and volunteer responders.
Comox Fire Rescue consists of six full-time staff and 50 well-trained paid-on-call members and responds to more than 900 emergency incidents each year.
