A coastal flooding statement for parts of Vancouver Island remains in effect.
Environment Canada issued the statement yesterday for areas covering North Vancouver Island, Campbell River, Greater Victoria, the southern Gulf Islands, along with the west coast.
Forecasters say higher-than-normal ocean water levels, combined with strong southeast winds and large waves, could cause minor flooding along low-lying shorelines. The conditions are expected near noon to early afternoon on Thursday, when high tide coincides with a potential storm surge.
A frontal system yesterday, and another today, will bring gusty winds and rough seas. Officials warn that water levels may exceed the highest astronomical tide, creating hazardous conditions along exposed beaches and coastal roads.
Residents are advised to use caution near the shoreline, as flooding, debris, and coastal erosion may occur.
