With various bans already in place, effective at noon Friday, campfires will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre, except the Haida Gwaii Forest District.
The ban applies to all public and private land within the Coastal Fire Centre jurisdiction, unless specified otherwise.
This prohibition will be in place until October 31 or until it is rescinded.
The Fire Rating is now listed as Extreme.
The campfire prohibition does not apply to cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes, or portable campfire devices that use briquettes, liquid or gaseous fuel, and the height of the flame is less than 15 centimetres.
You’re asked to keep an eye out for smoke in the forest. To report a wildfire, immediately call *5555 on your cellular phone or 9-1-1.
Meanwhile, an update on the new Sayward fire.
It was spotted Monday afternoon - sitting at a little under 2-hectares, BC Wildfire Service says it is now listed as under control.
