The City of Campbell River has confirmed the purchase of property near the Big Rock Boat Ramp to support long-term upgrades to the site.
The property at 1021 Island Highway South will allow planners to expand parking and improve access for the heavily used public launch.
The purchase aligns with the City’s Waterfront Property Acquisition Strategy - a framework adopted in 2015 to guide improvements to public waterfront access and amenities.
It is the eleventh property acquired under that strategy. The City says combining the newest purchase with land acquired in 2017 means available boat trailer parking will double once future upgrades are completed.
Demolition and site preparation work have already begun.
Further project planning and design will continue into the 2026 municipal budget discussions.
Future upgrades may include surface improvements, traffic layout changes, and enhancements to waterfront access.
The City says additional public updates will be shared once the planning phase advances.
