The City of Courtenay is hosting a community clean-up event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Volunteers will meet at Harmston Park at 10 a.m., rain or shine, for a safety orientation. City staff will distribute trash pickers/grabbers, bags, and gloves.
Volunteers are then invited to pick up trash in the area around the park including the downtown core and nearby trails.
Staff with City vehicles will be at designated locations to pick up collected materials for disposal.
Volunteers must register by signing up ahead of time at City of Courtenay.
Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the event.
Mayor Bob Wells says community clean-ups are a great way to get involved, adding every effort to help keep the community clean makes an impact.
Garbage and debris in urban and natural environments, if not removed, can get washed into storm drains, creeks, and waterways.
