Fire protection upgrades are coming to a north Courtenay neighbourhood.

Contractors will be installing new fire hydrants, and the upgraded watermains to service the hydrants, in five residential locations this summer throughout the Sandwick water distribution area:

Cliffe Road (North Island Hwy Frontage Road) and Cotton Road
Oakridge Drive
Muir Road and Cherry Ridge Drive
Reinhard Place
Kirkland Road

Chris Davidson, the city’s Director of Engineering says the upgrades are necessary for fire protection services in the area, ensuring the water system is meeting regulatory standards for fire safety.

Construction activities are planned to begin within the coming weeks at the North Island Hwy Frontage Road site and will be contained within the existing municipal road rights-of-way at each of the project sites as work proceeds over the coming weeks.

Expect single-lane alternating traffic at each project site while work is underway.

Access to properties at all project sites will be maintained throughout the duration of the work.

Schedules will be updated as work progresses, please see our project page at City of Courtenay for up-to-date project information.
