The City of Campbell River has opened nominations  for the 22nd annual Stewardship Awards, to recognize individuals who work to improve the environmental well-being of the community; those who dedicate their time to preserving the integrity and beauty of the city’s natural areas.

The City says that as the community confronts challenges such as biodiversity loss and climate change, the contributions of environmental stewards have become increasingly important.

From now until Tuesday, September 12, 2023, the City encourages Campbell River residents to nominate individuals, groups, youth, businesses and industry representatives who have contributed to the common cause of environmental stewardship in a number of categories:

·         Air Quality / Alternative Transportation (Is there an avid walker or cyclist near you?)

·         Pesticide Free / Urban Agriculture (Who’s working with nature and sharing their bounty?)

·         Water / Energy Conservation (Who’s saving our resources?)

·         Habitat Protection / Creation (Know someone who is rebuilding and restoring habitat?)

·         Waste Reduction (Who’s a role model when it comes to reducing waste?)

·         Youth Special Recognition (Who’s keeping the stewardship tradition alive and thriving?)

·         Environmental Excellence (Who deserves to be recognized for outstanding achievement?)

Mayor Kermit Dahl says Campbell River’s spectacular natural setting, which offers numerous benefits to our community, is one of the things the city is known for, and the awards are an opportunity to recognize residents who generously contribute to conserving its natural areas and keeping the local environment healthy.

If you know of an individual or group working in Campbell River to reduce their ecological footprint and to improve our common natural areas for the benefit of all, complete a nomination form at City of Campbell River or in person at City Hall (301 St. Ann’s Road).

Nominations close on September 12, and the award ceremony takes place on September 24, 2023
