The City of Campbell River is hosting a meeting tonight on a proposal to expand its Urban Containment Boundary to allow for a new subdivision south of Jubilee Parkway.

The proposal comes from developers, who will lead the meeting tonight at the Sportsplex, from 7pm to 9pm, to answer any questions residents may have.

The area of the application includes three properties along Jubilee Parkway to the south in the area of the Willow Creek Road and Jubilee Parkway intersection.

The application is for the expansion of the Urban Containment Boundary only and does not currently include any re-designation for residential development, rezoning or any development concept.

Area residents have some concerns - namely with traffic. The plan allows for around 300 urban and suburban lots, with up to 350 units.

The City is reviewing the application and has referred it to external agencies, including the Strathcona Regional District, local public utility providers, First Nations, Island Health, and Provincial Ministries.

A report should be ready by the fall, followed by a public hearing on the development.
