The City of Campbell River wants you to know a little more about the sewer system.
It’s launched a campaign to raise awareness of fats, oils and greases to help keep the sewer systems clear.
Every year the city says it spends time and resources cleaning Fats, Oil and Grease (FOG) from the sewer system.
FOG is the root cause of many sewer problems, including sewer spills and equipment malfunction, and it can also create problems in your home, like sewage back-ups and basement floods.
The City is bringing awareness to the FOG issue and has been working with School District 72 to bring ideas forward for a new FOG mascot.
Children from schools across Campbell River submitted their designs and three finalists were chosen. You can vote for your favourite on the city's facebook page at facebook.com/cityofcampbellriver before February 10, 2023.
The City will digitize the winning design and use it throughout the FOG awareness campaign. The winner will also receive a $50 gift card for a local Campbell River business.
