With recent rainfall and more expected in the coming weeks, all watering restrictions in the City of Campbell River have been lifted - reduced from Stage 2 water restrictions on Sunday, which had been in effect since mid-July.
“Given the long-term forecast and operational numbers we have decided to follow the timeline in the bylaw and let the watering restrictions end at the end of September,” said Steven Roehr, Operations Manager, Utilities.
“Operations will continue to monitor the system but, due to the shortened days and weather forecast, significant increases in flows are not expected to be seen once the restrictions are lifted.”
The City says restrictions through the hot summer months were largely successful in reducing overall water consumption and helped ensure adequate reserves for emergency firefighting use.
This included an 11 per cent reduction in average daily water use from July to August.
Residents and businesses are still encouraged to continue following water-wise practices throughout the fall and winter, to help protect the watershed into the future and reduce the overall environmental impact.
