Christmas Tree Chipping Fundraisers This Weekend

By Jay Herrington

It’s time to ditch that old Christmas tree.

Fire Services in Campbell River and the Comox Valley will be chipping trees this weekend, while raising money for charity at the same time.

In Campbell River, the Professional Firefighters Association is setting up shop outside the Sportsplex tomorrow (Saturday, Jan 07) from 10am to 4pm. They’re collecting funds for the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund.

The Courtenay Volunteer Fire Department will be chipping away tomorrow and Sunday, 10am to 4pm both days, at the Courtenay Fire Hall on Cumberland Road, or in front of Thrifty Foods on Lerwick Road.

For a minimum $5 donation, at-home pickup is also available for all areas served by the Courtenay Fire Department, including fire protection districts.

Call 250-334-2513 in advance for pick up or email fireevents@courtenay.ca.

A similar story in Comox where the fire department will pick up your tree for a minimum $10 donation.

You can also drop off at the Comox Fire Department on Noel Ave - with proceeds going to support YANA (You Are Not Alone), which offers help to Comox Valley families who need to travel for medical treatment for a child or someone who is pregnant.
