Sunday, April 28, is the National Day of Mourning.

Several communities are marking the annual event on Friday - honouring people who were injured or died from a workplace injury or disease.

Everyone is welcome to attend a ceremony and moment of silence at the Simms Park Pavilion, starting at 10am, hosted by the City of Courtenay, WorkSafeBC, Comox Valley Transition Society, and CUPE 556.

Other events are happening in Parksville, Port Alberni, And Powell River, among other locations.

For a list of other ceremonies around B.C., visit National Day of Mourning.

Keeping Our Word

The word "éy7á7juuthem" means “Language of our People” and is the ancestral tongue of the Homalco, Tla’amin, Klahoose and K’ómoks First Nations, with dialectic differences in each community.

It is pronounced "eye-ya-jooth-hem."
