The Strathcona Regional District is recognizing a major milestone for a longtime member of the Sayward Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
Patricia “Pat” Rusch is being honoured for 20 years of service with the department, where she has played a key role in both emergency response and day-to-day operations.
Fire Chief Frank Morgan says Rusch has spent two decades serving the community with dedication and compassion, adding that while he holds the title of Fire Chief, many consider Pat to be the one truly in charge.
Rusch currently serves as Administrative Assistant and also leads the department’s First Responder program. Other roles over the years include former Ambulance Unit Chief, Emergency Support Services volunteer, and board member with the Sayward Health Society.
She is also involved in training as a Red Cross Professional Responder Instructor.
SRD Manager of Emergency Services Shaun Koopman says Rusch has been a cornerstone of emergency services in Sayward, noting her commitment can be seen at all hours, regardless of conditions.
The Sayward Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department delivers fire protection, first responder and rescue services to the Regional District under Bylaw No. 588 to the Village and Sayward Valley residents.
