A volunteer organization that began by helping one Campbell River mother during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic has grown into a community of more than 6,900 people.

Caremongering Campbell River was established in March 2020 and now has more than 50 volunteers helping local residents access groceries, hot meals, emergency assistance and other everyday essentials.

The entirely volunteer-run organization is preparing to hold its next fundraiser at the Eagles Hall on Thursday, October 8, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The evening will feature dinner, live music from Luke Blu Guthrie and a silent auction offering more than 100 items.

Tickets are $35 and include a choice of Del’s Burger and Fries or a large deluxe salad, along with a beverage. Proceeds will support Caremongering’s ongoing work in the Campbell River community.

Organizers say the group’s previous two fundraisers sold out, and anyone interested in attending is encouraged to purchase tickets early.

Donations for the silent auction will also be accepted until the day of the event. Suggested contributions include gift certificates, experiences, locally made products and professional services.
