Caremongering Campbell River is marking six years of helping neighbours in need and the volunteer-run group is once again asking the community for support.
Funded entirely through private donations and fundraising, the organization has no operating costs, meaning every dollar raised goes directly back into the community.
In 2025, nearly $55,000 was raised through events like the Christmas gingerbread cookie sale and two Burger, Beverage and Silent Auction nights.
Volunteers completed 492 grocery shops last year, providing $100 grocery supplements, gas support and help with bills, along with essential items like beds and appliances.
One recent example involved a family facing terminal illness and sudden loss of income. Within days, volunteers delivered groceries and arranged for donated firewood - a reminder of what the group calls “neighbours helping neighbours.”
“Six years ago, Caremongering started with a simple idea — helping when, where and how we can,” said Tara Jordan, volunteer and group founder.
“What we’ve seen since then is the incredible power of community. When someone is going through the hardest moment of their life, this community shows up. That’s something really special.”
Caremongering is now preparing for its next fundraiser at the Eagles Hall and is seeking silent auction donations.
Tickets are $35 and available at River City Players.
