The Comox Valley Regional District says the Canada Post strike is affecting the mailing of the utility bills.
Bills are distributed quarterly to residents connected to the Black Creek-Oyster Bay, Comox Valley, Royston, and Union Bay Water Systems, as well as residents within the Royston Garbage/Recycling Collection service area.
While the CVRD does not charge interest or penalties, utility bills must be paid by December 31, to avoid outstanding balances being transferred to property tax accounts held with the Ministry of Finance.
Once transferred, the balances will incur daily interest imposed by the Province.
The CVRD is encouraging account holders to sign up for e-billing to receive your current bill and avoid future disruptions due to postal services.
Visit www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/ebilling-request-form to sign up for the e-billing service.
You can also give them a call or visit the CVRD main office in Courtenay after October 15 where staff can assist residents by providing a printed copy of utility bills.
“We appreciate your patience as we navigate the impacts of the Canada Post mail strike,” explains Lucy Wiwcharuk, Chief Financial Officer for the CVRD.
“We encourage account holders to register for e-billing and preauthorized payment services to avoid future postage disruptions and ensure bills can be paid prior to the annual transfer to taxes."
