Campbell River’s Rail Yard Market has received a Community Project Award from British Columbia Economic Development Association, recognizing the creative vision and collaboration behind the micro-unit marketplace.
The City shared the news in a Facebook post last week while congratulating the four inaugural tenants - The Mossy Coast, Maggie’s Treats, Tin Can Pottery Shop, and Sinfully Delicious.
The City said the four share a passion and dedication that helped set a high bar for success.
The Rail Yard Market was inspired in part by The Langford Station in Langford and driven forward by Campbell River Mayor Kermit Dahl and Council, with many City departments working together to bring the project to life.
They also received assistance from Downtown Campbell River and the Campbell River Farmers Market & Arts Faire.
The Rail Yard Market provides affordable, downtown retail space for up to 36 months to help emerging entrepreneurs secure a foothold in a retail environment.
Funding for The Rail Yard Market was provided by the BC Government’s Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP) grant, Island Coastal Economic Trust’s Capital in Innovation Fund and the City.
Opportunities for new vendors will open in spring 2026.
