The City of Campbell River is heading into 2026 with a full slate of infrastructure, recreation, housing and community-service projects, as Mayor and Council outline priorities aimed at supporting growth while keeping the community healthy, safe and resilient.

City officials say the upcoming year will balance affordability with continued investment.

The 2026 municipal tax increase has been set at 2.7 percent, the lowest among comparable communities, while still funding key services and capital projects.

The budget also includes more than $800 thousand in grants for local non-profit organizations.

Several major construction and renewal projects are scheduled to move ahead in 2026. Work is set to begin on Reimagine the Row, a long-planned downtown initiative aimed at revitalization and improved public space.

Enhancements are also coming to Nunn’s Creek Park, including new slo-pitch fields, a festival area and additional facilities designed to support large community events.

Waterfront access is another focus. Improvements to the Big Rock Boat Ramp will be completed in time for the 2026 summer season, with upgraded parking and better traffic flow expected to make the area safer and more accessible.

A new pedestrian connection within the Pinecrest Road right-of-way will also be built, linking the top of the ridge directly to the waterfront.

Critical infrastructure work is also on the agenda.

The Erickson Road Renewal Project will address aging water and storm service infrastructure, helping support long-term reliability in that part of the city.

Recreation and green space expansion continues as well. A new parkland development is planned for Quinsam Heights, adding to recent investments in neighbourhood amenities across Campbell River.

Housing remains a priority heading into 2026. The City says it will continue adding units to the local housing supply while advocating to senior levels of government for additional non-market housing, long-term care facilities and expanded community support.

Downtown activity will again be boosted by the return of CR Live Streets. After a record-setting 2025 season, the popular summer event series is scheduled to come back in 2026 with more live entertainment aimed at driving foot traffic and economic activity in the city core.

City leaders say the year ahead builds on progress made in 2025, with a continued focus on infrastructure, public safety, economic development and services for vulnerable residents, as Campbell River plans for continued growth.
