Campbell River residents are being encouraged to roll up their sleeves this afternoon and help make the city a little cleaner.

The Rotary Club of Campbell River’s Clean the Streets event runs today from 4 to 7 p.m.

Volunteers can meet outside the Lighthouse Entrance of the Maritime Heritage Centre to pick up free biodegradable bags, learn which areas need extra attention and join a cleanup team.

Participants will be heading to streets, beaches, parks, trails and neighbourhoods around Campbell River.

Anyone unable to arrive at 4 p.m. can still take part by choosing an area and organizing a cleanup with friends, family, neighbours or coworkers.

After the cleanup, participants are invited to a community social at Boston Pizza beginning at 7 p.m.

Groups of four who participated in the cleanup will receive a free basic nacho platter for their table.
