Campbell River City Council has approved new five-year licence agreements with three major non-profit operators of City-owned facilities.

The Tidemark Theatre Society, the Campbell River Maritime Heritage Society, and the Campbell River and District Art Gallery will each continue operating their facilities under new licences set at one dollar per year - a symbolic rate well below market value.

Council says the agreements represent more than $776,000 in annual financial support when factoring in lease value, tax exemptions, grant funding, and building maintenance.

The groups applied under the City’s updated Financial Assistance Policy as their existing leases are set to expire between 2026 and 2028.

Earlier this year, the organizations also took part in a Thriving Non-Profits program to help strengthen long-term financial sustainability and explore new revenue sources.

They later returned to Council to share progress and outline ongoing challenges.

The City says it will now move ahead with required statutory notifications before finalizing the new licence agreements.
