Campbell River RCMP have issued a public safety warning following what they call a concerning rise in overdose deaths in the community.
In the past five weeks, at least 11 people have lost their lives to suspected drug overdoses.
“We are deeply concerned by the sharp increase in overdose fatalities,” said Inspector, Jeff Preston, commander of the Campbell River RCMP detachment.
“Each of these deaths represents a person with family, friends and a future, and we do not want to see this tragic trend continue.”
The RCMP, in collaboration with local health authorities, is urging anyone who uses drugs or has loved ones who do to take extra precautions.
Inspector Preston says their priority is to prevent further loss of life and are asking the public to share the message widely and help keep the community safe.
